Interview with Zach Wilson about Level Designers

Game Roles Interview Jarod Frank What does a level designer do..? ·      Build levels, specifically, any playable area of the game. (Missions, stages, hubs, etc) ·      Designs the artistic and technical aspects of player interaction with nearly every aspect of the game. Be it programing how a player might climb a ledge or open a door, or arrange the assets built by 3D modelers in an intriguing manor. o   EX: Arranging walls and panels in a way to form a maze. ·      Level designers have access to every other aspect of the game, and act as miniature directors of sorts, combining the sound, artistic, modules, and effect designs made by other departments. ·      “Level Designers have one primary goal: give the player an objective. Give ‘em something to do. And make it fun. Drawings and Physical Modules

                                                     While I had gone over topics concerning the human figure and how light interacts with objects in previous art classes, I didn't go into nearly as much depth as I did while attending Ringling my freshman year. By reinventing the way that I not only performed my drawings and other art, but also how I approached them and "saw" my objectives prior to interpret them, my various artistic abilities were vastly improved over a short time span. I felt and continue to feel very lucky for having attended classes where the primary purpose was to instruct students how and why  drawings and other artistic pieces were constructed the way they were; instead of simply skimming over history lessons and minor points on drawing basic shapes. Be it through drawings or three dimensional modules and clay constructs, my freshman year was filled with a great diversity of various art projects that challenged everything I thought I knew about
